The 3rd Week Slumperparty Photos

Posted by admin on December 7, 2009

On the third weekend of November (the slump), we had an overnight wordy marathon. Most Wrimos wrote in the neighborhood of 7-8K words. We played games, ate pizza, and wrote. Here are some photos from the event.

December 1st

Posted by swiftdust on December 1, 2009

December 1st. What a sweet sound it has! I don’t have to write 1,667 words today! NaNoWriMo is OVER!

A bunch of folks stopped in to Writer House last night (thanks for bringing cookies, cookie-bringers!) and those of us who hadn’t quite marched over that line of 50k pushed through, myself included. I love seeing the little purple winner’s bars on the forums! But even if you didn’t finish, it was fun, wasn’t it? It was so great to meet so many cool wrimos! (and reconnect with those of you we met last year!)

We are going to celebrate our sweet, sweet victory via a TGIO (Thank Goodness It’s Over) party on Sunday December 6th at 6pm at lovely Writer House (508 Dale Ave). Come and join us! (Hungry wrimos note: some of us will probably order pizza.)

If you attend, please please bring a SHORT excerpt (approx. half-page single spaced, full page double) from your NaNo story, even if you didn’t win – we’re going to play a “identify the story” game. Please keep your excerpt PG, we have young wrimos!

If you’d like to stay abreast of NaNo news during the off season (aka the rest of the year), be sure to sign up for the mailing list through Writer House — we can’t use the official NaNo list year-round, so this is what we use the rest of the time.

It’s been a blast writing with you all!

Slumperparty!

Posted by swiftdust on November 20, 2009

Hey, wrimos!

How are you all doing?  How are the wordcounts looking?  Don’t lose heart!  This is the third week slump … you can make it!

Here is the scoop re: the Slumperparty:

Come meet us at 7pm on Saturday Nov 21st at Writer House for an all-night writing/game playing/sleepingbag-sleeping event!  Or, for those of you who consider the idea of sleeping draped over an armchair totally abhorrent, just come down until you’re too tired to write another letter.  Those of us who are behind are going to do our very best to bridge the gap and get a little padding in before Thanksgiving, and play some games, etc.

We’re definitely planning on breakfast the next morning – we’ll pick a time at the event and I’ll send it to twitter/facebook/the writerhouse mailing list/namowrimo forum/blog, for those of us who are only into this NaNo thing for the opportunities to eat chocolate chip pancakes.  (Can’t blame you.)

See you there (if you dare!),

Your #2 ML,
– Sophia

PS: Remember, no official events around Thanksgiving, because everybody’s traveling – but if you want to meet other folks at a coffee shop or something, let me know via nanomail or email (soph...@gmail.com) and I’ll boost your signal!  Check the calendar!

Christy’s glasses broke right before the write-in portion of the evening — but luckily Rachel fixed them with a paperclip, because she’s MacGyver:

Happy noveling, wrimos!

Kickoff Pictures

Posted by swiftdust on November 12, 2009

So it’s pretty obvious I snapped a few pictures and then went into full on candy-eating and writing mode, because I have so few, but here’s what I was able to catch of the elusive wrimos in their natural habitat!

Halfway Party Details!

Posted by swiftdust on November 9, 2009

Hi, Cville Wrimos!

Details about the halfway party:

2pm-2:30ish: Pillow Fight, location TBD (but somewhere on campus at UVA): Relieve stress by clobbering (and being clobbered) by pillows.

5:00pm-6:30ish: Celebratory Potluck Feast at Writer House!

Do you make a rockin’ potato salad?  Help us out by bringing a dish! Please email me, Sophia (soph...@gmail.com), with what you can bring so we don’t end up with a potluck entirely consisting of potato salad (that would be sad) or if you need special dietary considerations (allergies, vegetarian status, etc).

Potluck – Menu (this will update as people email me!)

After the potluck we’ll be having a write-in (gotta get those words!) and at 9pm the folks who are 21+ are going to go out for a belated Happy Hour somewhere.  Location TBD.  But we’ll leave from Writer House, so be there or be square!

And keep writing!  Even if you’re behind, we aren’t even halfway through the month, yet — you can do it!

Week 2 Events!

Posted by swiftdust on November 6, 2009

Hi, Cville wrimos!

How’s everybody doing? I (Sophia) am behind, eek! But it’s still early, there’s time to catch up, so those of you who’re behind, do not despair! Come to a write-in, we writers are famously productive in packs.

Here are some upcoming events (which you can see on our calendar):

  • Sunday, Nov 8th, 10am: Meet other wrimos at The Tavern for breakfast! Some wrimos are heading back to WH to write, while others intend to nap … and come back at 2pm, which is…
  • Sunday, Nov 8th, 2-5pm: WH Open Hours
  • Tuesday, Nov 10th, 6-9pm: Write-In! Come and write!
  • Wednesday, Nov 11th, 6-9pm: Write-In! Come and write some more!
  • Sunday, Nov 15th: Halfway Party! We have few details for this event (our UVA wrimos are having a pillow fight!), but stay tuned, a better rundown of events is coming!

Good luck!

Your ML #2, Sophia

Events for This Weekend

Posted by runkefer on November 5, 2009

Remember that WriterHouse’s regular open hours will not be quiet writing time on Saturday, due to an already-scheduled event. Feel free to come to the event, though, where you can learn all about how to get your work published in literary journals. More details on the WH Website.

On Sunday at 10am, join us for pancakes and coffee at The Tavern and then we’ll go over to WH afterward for a write-in (or nap, as the case may be).

If you can’t make it in the morning, come to Open Hours from 2pm-5pm on Sunday. Or come to breakfast and stay the whole day. I know I will be.
