As the Books editor for Virginia Living for the past 16 years, Bill Glose has sifted through hundreds of book marketing campaigns. In this seminar, he will discuss how he chooses which books to review and the mistakes that many beginning authors do that harm their chances. He will also discuss the lifespan of a book and show participants how to make a publicity package that stands out.
Bill Glose is the author of four poetry collections. He was named the Daily Press Poet Laureate in 2011 and featured by NPR on The Writer’s Almanac in 2017. His stories, poems, and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including The Missouri Review, The Sun, Rattle, and Narrative Magazine.
A contributing editor with Virginia Living magazine, he has also written freelance articles, essays, and stories for numerous other publications, including The Writer, Army Times,and GRIT. His literary honors include the F. Scott Fitzgerald Short Story Award, the Heroes’ Voices National Poetry Contest, the Virginia Press Association First Place Award for Sports News Writing, and the Missouri Humanities Council Award for Veteran’s Interviews.
Bill is a former paratrooper and combat platoon leader. As a civilian, he undertook a 1,500-mile walking odyssey through Virginia. The poems in his latest book, Virginia Walkabout, are based on this experience. His website (www.BillGlose.com) includes a page of helpful information for writers.
