This course pairs workshopping with close reading of outside texts that demonstrate success in a spectrum of classic craft challenges. We will address issues of narrative tension, clichés of the body, verisimilitude, writing emotion, point-of-view filtering and more. Pairing reading and workshopping will help writers understand their own craft challenges as well as how expert writers succeed with the same challenges. Knowing what success looks like should help writers use feedback most effectively as they revise post-workshop.
