Daytime Generative Writing (This class is full!)
January 22, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 9:30 am on Wednesday, repeating until March 11, 2020
Instructor: Sharon Harrigan
$189 Members | $210 Nonmembers
Wednesdays, 1/22/20 – 3/11/20 | 9:30 am -12:00 pm
NOTE: This class will start and end one week later than other eight-week classes.
No time for homework? No problem. We’ll do all the writing and critique work in class, so you don’t have to do it at home. Each session will begin with a short meditation to clear our heads. Then the instructor will lead participants through a series of prompts that build on each other and move toward the goal of completing a cohesive story, essay, or short memoir. Each participant will also have the opportunity (but not obligation) to share the results of the in-class exercises and receive immediate constructive feedback. At the end of each session, we will examine a short example of a published story, essay, or memoir and discuss the mechanics of what makes it successful.
Based on similar generative classes given by the Tin House Summer Workshop and Writing by Writers, this course is appropriate for all levels, from beginning to advanced writers. Think of it as your weekly yoga class, but with a pen and paper instead of a mat.
Sharon Harrigan’s debut memoir, Playing with Dynamite, was published in October 2017 by Truman State University Press. She has published over 50 essays, reviews, interviews, short stories, and personal essays in places such as The New York Times (Modern Love), Narrative, and Virginia Quarterly Review. She has an MFA in fiction from Pacific University and has taught at WriterHouse since 2014.
We’re sorry, but this very popular class is already full!
