Instructor: Helen Chandler
Cost: $189 Members | $210 Non-members
8 Wednesdays, 3/22/17 – 5/10/17 | 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

This class is aimed at those who would like to improve their personal writing in any form – memoir, personal essay, or creative non-fiction. The focus of the class will be on reading pieces of personal narrative from established authors, such as James Baldwin, Anne Carson and Virginia Woolf, and then creating work of our own, in-class and at home. You will generate lots of ideas in this class and work on one complete essay or section of a longer memoir for workshop. The class is open to both experienced writers and beginners.

Helen Chandler is an Irish writer living in Charlottesville, where she teaches fiction at UVA. She holds an MFA in fiction from UVA and an MA in Creative Writing from University College Dublin. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Meridian magazine and her essays and fiction have appeared in LitHub, The Stinging Fly magazine and elsewhere. She is at work on her first novel.
