Fiction is life sifted through imagination. In this class we will ask what, then, makes good fiction of every genre feel so “real” and how we can achieve this effect in our own work. We’ll read short stories, novel excerpts and craft pieces, write our own fiction, and discuss each other’s work in a supportive workshop setting. We will also compare notes on creating a successful writing practice. All experience levels welcome, but we will hit the ground running
About the Instructor: Amanda Korman is a writer whose short fiction has appeared in the Virginia Quarterly Review. She has an MFA in Fiction Writing from UVA and a BA from Williams College. She is the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for The Women’s Initiative, a nonprofit providing mental health services in Charlottesville.
