Cost: $189 Members | $210 Non-members
8 Wednesdays, January 11 – March 1, 2017 | 1:00 PM-3:30 PM

The poet, Gregory Orr, says, “Poetry…is a huge repository of focused testimony about what it is to be human – to endure emotions and experience … to think and feel and sense and remember and imagine, all under the pressure of an urgency that compresses language to its barest, sensuous essence.”

This workshop will help you transform your ordinary thoughts, feelings and memories into the extraordinary art of poetry. The workshop will combine discussion of specific concepts and principles of contemporary poetic craft with opportunity for each participant to share his or her work every week based on writing prompts generated by the instructor. For writers of all levels.

Sharron Singleton’s poems have appeared in Agni, Rattle, Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, among others. She won the James River Writers Contest and was Passager Poet of 2010, and also won 1st place prizes in 2010 and 2012 in the Poetry Society of Virginia annual contest and won 1st place in the MacGuffin Poet Hunt contest and the Sixfold Contest. In early 2015, Sharron won the Thomas Merton Poetry of the Sacred Contest. Her chapbook, A Thin Thread of Water was published in 2010.

This class is now full.
