“When the soul is on the page, literature has been created.”
– Frank Conroy

Creative writing is a supreme human activity that requires a writer to understand one’s self and one’s subject at the deepest level – from the inside-out. Looked at through the lens of human psychology, these twin stand-alone seminars focus on two of the deep qualities of personality and character that empower the writer to transform from a craftsperson into an artist.

The idea behind this seminar is that great writing is fueled and infused by some poignant, passionate issue in one’s life. Accordingly, its goal is to help participants locate the central issue that forms their artistic identity and leads to putting their emotional truth on the page.

Jay Kauffmann’s fiction and nonfiction have appeared in numerous publications and anthologies here and abroad. Winner of the Andrew Grossbardt Memorial Prize and nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best New American Voices, he has taught at Randolph College, Vermont College, University of Virginia, and Miller School.
Russell Grieger, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with over thirty years experience working with individuals, couples and families. An author of eight professional texts and self-help books, he has recently published a memoir and is currently working on a second one.
