First Fridays Art Opening, “What’s left” by Kiel Posner
February 7 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for food, wine, and lively conversation as we celebrate the artwork of Kiel Posner. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Posner’s first solo exhibition, “What’s left,” is a series of epoxy-covered T-shirt paintings. The title recalls the work required to perpetually sustain the home, while also acknowledging the responsibility to maintain ourselves.
Kiel Posner is a mixed media sculptor based out of Richmod, Virginia. He is currently a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts fellowship recipient and a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University. Posner works in ceramics, glass, mold-making, and other mixed media processes while exploring themes of the home, materiality, and memory. He is interested in the way that the objects we choose to own influence relationships or reveal the self. Using material exploration, alternative processes, and craft techniques to transform objects, Posner creates a record of a task or moment that is likely to be forgotten or ignored.
Those who are unable to attend the opening can view the exhibit the rest of the month during our open writing hours, Monday – Friday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The exhibit will run through February 28.
