First Fridays Art Opening with Philip Marlin
September 7 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for food, wine, and lively conversation as we celebrate the artwork of Philip Marlin. His exhibition titled Abstract by Intuition is free and open to the public.
About the artist: Philip Jay Marlin was born in Queens, NYC, on October 16, 1963, to Rebecca and Kenneth, who had a short-lived marriage. The memory of his mother initiates all of his work. After all, it was his mother who introduced him to acrylic painting when he was ten years old. Philip spent perhaps twelve years in colleges across the country and obtained degrees in Dietetics, Biology, Psychology, and Chiropractic Medicine, but left those fields to spend his life creating visual art and poetry. A self-taught artist who lives in Charlottesville, his art is a mix of straight acrylic and multi-media. In the past, he used large premium canvases, though he now works with smaller canvases and panel board. “I like using the minimal scale,” Philip says. “It brings me closer to my subject.” He has exhibited in a variety of venues including galleries, restaurants, coffee houses, bookshops, and from his studio. Some of his work has been sold to private collectors, like Edward Colina, a diamond jeweler by trade from Miami. Philip’s first artistic love was Van Gogh, and as a tribute, he signs his work using only his first name: Philip. He hopes all who venture out will enjoy the exhibition.
Those who are unable to attend the opening can view his work through Friday, September 28, 2018, during our open writing hours, Monday – Friday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
