What can a writer accomplish in 500 words? In this single morning seminar, we will explore the power of short prose by closely reading and discussing examples and writing and sharing our own. This seminar will also be an opportunity to survey a cross-section of craft techniques for creating excellent prose of any length. So while this session will certainly be of interest to those writing or wishing to write “flash” or “short shorts,” it will also be instructive to any prose writer looking to improve a longer work by focusing in on sentence-by-sentence dynamics.
Open to fiction and nonfiction writers. All experience levels welcome, but we will hit the ground running!
Amanda Korman is a writer whose short fiction has appeared in the Virginia Quarterly Review. She has an MFA in Fiction Writing from UVA and a BA from Williams College.
