This is a course for students with some experience conceiving and crafting poetic work, though you need not be published. Our focus will be on refreshing our writing practice through new sources of inspiration that help us break our writerly habits. To that end we will explore various poetic prompts, making room for traditional forms as well as experimentation, as we encourage each other to nurture a regular and mindful writing practice. The course will include supportive discussion of our own works-in-progress, plus close reading of published authors’ work. Students will be empowered to shape the course by helping to choose readings and suggest directions for writing prompts.
