Use those oft-over-looked senses of taste and smell to stimulate your creativity in an afternoon of noshing, writing, and discussion. With instructor’s direction and using prompts from food’s variety of colors, shapes, textures, associations, tastes, and smells, participants will free-write in the genre of their choice (essay, poetry, short story ….) followed by discussion. Over snacks, of course. No writing experience necessary. Food will be provided. Please bring your own beverage container/water bottle. (limited to 8 students)
About the Instructor: Kristin Swenson teaches religious studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her books include Living Through Pain: Psalms and the Search for Wholeness, What Is Religious Studies?, Bible Bable, and God of Earth. Born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota among the chosen frozen, she studied biology at St. Olaf College and has earned Masters and Ph.D. degrees from Boston University in religious studies.
