Maybe you’ve been meaning to start a novel for ages and you need the extra nudge to finally take the plunge. Or, maybe you’ve started a novel and it’s getting away from you, and you need some guidance on how to grab the reins and steer it back on course. Maybe you have a short story that you think can expand. Whatever the case may be, writing a novel is usually a marathon, and this class is designed to help authors with those early and necessary steps, building momentum to take them to the finish line.
The format of the class will be a workshop, in which the instructor will lead the class through a discussion of your writing, offering guidance, techniques, and analysis of how you can take your novel past its nascent stage and onward to completion. Prospective students are asked to submit 5K words of a manuscript for review prior to admission to the class. This will ensure that everyone is coming in with writing to workshop. Initial workshops will be of between 5K-15K words and a second workshop will be between 15K-25K, either of material freshly written, or a revision of that initial submission. Students are also encouraged to submit outlines and sketches for feedback from peers and the instructor. This class is best suited for writers of adult fiction.
Class will also involve a one-on-one discussion with the instructor, to be scheduled separate from class time.
Note: This class will meet for TEN Mondays on the following dates: 9/14; 9/21; 9/28; 10/5; 10/12; 10/19; 11/9; 11/16; 12/7; 12/14
Students must submit at least 5k words of their manuscript prior to admission and no later than 8/31/20. Students accepted into this class will be given registration instructions. Please email manuscript to firstname.lastname@example.org.
