Pattern and Form in Poetry

May 23 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:00pm on Tuesday, repeating until June 27, 2017

Instructor: Kristen Rembold
Cost: $142 Members | $158 Non-members
6 Tuesdays, 5/23/17 – 6/27/17 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

This class will be an examination of pattern and form in poetry.  All poets are pattern makers.  We’ll read examples from literature (mainly recent examples) and set about deconstructing/constructing our own forms, too. Participants will have the opportunity to submit and workshop poems each week, and we will view those poems-in-process through the lens of pattern/exception.  Even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer of formal verse, you will be surprised to discover all the ways that pattern affects the way you shape your poems.

Kristen Staby Rembold’s most recent book is a chapbook of poetry, Leaf and Tendril, published by Finishing Line Press. She also has published a novel, Felicity, winner of Mid-List Press First Fiction Series Award, and another poetry chapbook, Coming Into This World, published by Hot Pepper Press. Her writing has appeared in many literary journals and periodicals including Southern Poetry Review, Green Mountains Review, Literary Mama, Crab Orchard Review, Appalachia, and New Ohio Review. Her poems have been finalists in the 2015 Erskine J. Poetry Contest at Smartish Pace, in the 2010 Morton Mars Prize at the Southwest Review, and in the 2010 Ron Rash Awards at the Broad River Review. She has twice been a fellow at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She holds degrees from Northwestern University and the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers.
