“The real voyage of discovery lies not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” -Marcel Proust
In this workshop geared toward middle school writers, we will ban the blank page, filling it with the language of our experiences. We will explore the process of writing and find creative inspiration in keen observation, deep reflection, and serious play. Using great writers—from Shakespeare to Spinelli—as our models and guides, we will also survey many genres, practicing diverse writing skills. Students will enjoy the camaraderie of the writer’s workshop, instructor and peer feedback, and engaging field trips, too!
Taylor Blackburn has a decade of experience as an English, Creative Writing, and Drama teacher at the middle and high school levels. She has a Masters in Teaching from the University of Virginia and takes an eclectic and compassionate approach to education. Her creative writing workshops emphasize non-judgment and the joy of language.
