In a week-long summer camp for high school students for four hours a day, young writers will explore what it means to be a witness. As it is hard to witness much in the confines of a classroom, the first four days will include walking field trips. With each sojourn into town, writers will be challenged to view the world with new perspective, and prompted to find new ways to speak to the subject in verse.
All levels of capability and experience with writing verse are welcome, but a love of poetry and its discussion are essential.
Thomas Warren has been told he drinks too much coffee on more than one occasion. He currently teaches Creative Writing and English at Monticello High School where he serves as the Literary Arts Magazine Advisor and English Department Chair. He previously worked with teenage writers at UVA’s summer program, Young Writers Workshop, and he has been published in the Virginia English Journal and Pif Magazine. He lives on a farm outside of Charlottesville with his wife, daughter, two horses, and petting-zoo-reject-miniature-donkey, Biscuit.
