During this week, young writers will explore the craft and fun of creative writing through a variety of prompts, journaling, music, brainstorming, people-watching and visits to inspiring nearby locations. Modes of expression and experimentation will include poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and more! Throughout the week, we will learn about and participate in all elements of the writing workshop process from start to finish, sharing and receiving ideas and refining our work. At the end of the week, each young writer will publish a piece in a journal of collected works from this exciting week of writing!
Erin James currently teaches English at Henley Middle School. Additionally, she has had the great fortune to be a judge for the Writer’s Eye Creative Writing Contest that is hosted by the University of Virginia’s Fralin Museum of Art for the past six years, and she has also attended two week-long workshops for Teachers as Writers at Bard College’s Institute for Writing and Thinking. Before she began teaching, she studied Journalism and English at New York University, and she ultimately received her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Virginia. When she is not at school, she loves writing for fun, reading, hiking, practicing and teaching yoga, cooking, being outside, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
**Your child will not be allowed to participate in this class until we receive a signed permission form, even if you pay online.
