Where do story ideas come from? What’s the best way to begin? How do you create a character so real you want to call them up on the phone? How do you create suspense so your reader hangs on every word? What’s the best way to end? In this class, we'll focus on crafting stories together. We’ll read Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine and spend a lot of time giving each other feedback. This class is open to anyone from novices to students with novels in progress! A love of stories is the only requirement. Snacks and walks outside will be incorporated into the daily routine. Fee includes writer's notebook and "Writing Magic" book.
Jen Wilson is the English teacher at The Field School of Charlottesville. She earned a B.A. in English from The College of William and Mary and a Masters in Teaching from UVA. Jen began teaching writing at UVA’s Young Writer’s Workshop during college and never looked back. Since then, she has written a blog about trekking across Spain, taught English in China, and now enjoys reading her students’ thoughtful, hilarious, and sometimes gory stories.
