Grades Rising 6th – Rising 8th: Writing Workshop with Erin James

In this two-week writing workshop, we will read and discuss a variety of published stories and poems, explore a wide range of writing prompts and exercises, engage in activities to spark inspiration and creativity, and learn the tools and techniques used in both poetry and prose. You will also have the opportunity to share ideas, get feedback, and refine your work. Join us on this writing adventure!

Erin has taught English and Creative Writing for nearly a decade, and this will be her seventh summer working with students at WriterHouse. Additionally, she has been both a student and teacher at UVa’s Young Writers Workshop, and a judge for the Writer‘s Eye Creative Writing Contest that is hosted by the University of Virginia’s Fralin Museum of Art for the past six years. She has attended two week-long workshops for Teachers as Writers at Bard College’s Institute for Writing and Thinking, and this summer received an author fellowship to attend the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing. Before she began teaching, she studied Journalism and English at New York University, and she ultimately received her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Virginia. In addition to writing Erin loves reading, hiking, practicing and teaching yoga, cooking, being outside, traveling, and spending time with her husband, sons Noah and Jacob, and friends.

Limit: 10 students. At the end of the writing camp session, we’ll have a reading for parents and friends.
