Are you ready to write this summer? Join this class that blends a traditional fiction workshop with themed generative writing days in which we’ll focus on a specific aspect of craft. Know what the best part is? Participants will have minimal work to do between class sessions other than focus on their own writing.
Every other week we’ll workshop participants’ short stories or novel chapters. Depending on class size, students will have 1-2 workshops.
For the generative weeks, the sessions will include reading and discussion of a published writing sample that illustrates effective use of a specific element of craft, such as character development/description, dialogue, setting, and tension. Afterwards, participants will get three specific tips for that week’s craft element before completing a writing activity intended to practice that specific element. Finally, students pair up to read each other’s work and discuss it.
Both students working on an existing project and those starting something new will be successful in this class.
Participants will leave class with new material and greater insight into craft elements that will improve their writing going forward. Is your writing body ready for summer?
