June 4, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Instructor: Hannah Barnaby
Cost: $50.00 Members | $60.00 Non-Members
1 Saturdays, June 04, 2016 | 10:00 AM-12:00 PM
Limited to 10 students.
The best young adult novels balance compelling characters with engaging plots, but most of us aren’t equally comfortable with both. If you’re drawn to characters first and plotting second–or if you love plotting but can’t seem to get all the way from beginning to end–this two-hour seminar will help you regain that balance and move forward with your YA novel. Using techniques from popular guides to plotting and outlining, as well as in-class exercises, we’ll find a method that works for you! Reference texts: SAVE THE CAT by Blake Snyder; THE PLOT WHISPERER by Martha Alderson; STORY by Robert McKee.
| Hannah Barnaby is a former editor whose first novel, Wonder Show, was a 2013 Morris Award Finalist. She holds an MA from Simmons College and an MFA from Vermont College, and she was the inaugural Writer-in-Residence at the Boston Public Library. Hannah lives in Charlottesville with her husband and three children, and her second novel will be published in 2016 by Knopf.
