JMRL Same Page Kick Off Special Event in partnership with WriterHouse. Same Page is an annual community-wide reading initiative that provides opportunities for book groups, classrooms, and individuals to explore the themes of a single book by an author appearing at the Virginia Festival of the Book.
What Can a Poem Do? In this free, one-hour, generative poetry workshop we will explore a variety of poetic forms, listen to and read poetry aloud, and have the opportunity to write poems of our own. We will observe and notice aspects of craft and poetic form and wonder together about the magic of words, sounds, and images, and how a poem can often do so much with so few words. Poets whose work we may explore include current Poet Laureate Ada Limon, Ocean Vuong, Sherman Alexie, Victoria Chang, Matsuo Basho, and more. This will be a fun and interactive experience for writers with any level of experience!
*Please bring a tablet, laptop, or journal for writing.
