Our brains churn out stories, real and made-up, but in capturing our narratives, questions about content, but also genre, style, form, and more plague us. Writers in any genre are welcome in this class where we’ll question our stories and how to tell them. We’ll generate new work by writing from prompts because they surprise and provoke the subconscious, offering insights that probe meaning. We’ll make time to discuss “problem” stories, whose codes we haven’t yet cracked. We’ll also read and discuss craft by reading short pieces—stories, poems, and essays. Hope to see you in September. Until then, check out David Sedaris’s “Happy Go Lucky.”
