This special weekend workshop is for 12-17 year-olds interested in making COMICS! Critically acclaimed graphic novelist Laura Lee Gulledge will share her techniques for telling stories through words and pictures, sharing original artifacts and demonstrating the process drawing live with the group. Participants will then develop their own original characters and make their own six-panel mini comic book using Laura Lee’s favorite blue cartooning pencils and ink pens. About the Instructor: LAURA LEE GULLEDGE is the Charlottesville, Virginia based author and illustrator of the YA graphic novels Page by Paige and Will & Whit, which was nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award. She and her Artners have developed Will & Whit into an innovative DIT musical for teens, which recently debuted at the VTA Fringe Festival. Her NEW interactive book Sketchbook Dares (Abrams Noterie) invites you to try out her favorite drawing activities.

Laura Lee is also a passionate teacher, guest speaker, and creative consultant with an MA in Art Education who has shared her love of visual storytelling and Artnership across a dozen states. She is currently working on her next YA graphic novel (coming Spring 2020), teaching visual art at the Park School, and is a Teaching Artist through the Virginia Commission of the Arts. She posts new art and adventures weekly on her blog.
