Limited to 11 students.

Whether it’s the heart that is broken, the mind that is in anguish, or a bodily ailment that taxes our sense of being as a healthy, whole self, writing can help us to become sound again. Many people journal as a way to heal, as a private dialogue within one’s self. This workshop will focus instead on writing for an audience, others who also hope to heal. In this workshop, we will write for each other, using our written words to let others know that healing is possible, and that no one need suffer alone.

Rosalyn W. Berne, Ph.D. explores the intersecting realms of emerging technologies, science, fiction and myth, and the links between the human and non-human worlds. A professor in the field of Science, Technology, & Society (STS) at UVA, her research interests include new reproductive and other bio-technologies, and inter-species communication. Outside of her academic life, Rosalyn uses her perceptual gifts and empathic intuition in working with horses and their human companions. Her publications include two academic books and numerous papers, as well as books in the science fiction and body-mind-spirit genres. In most recent publication, Waking to Beauty, Rosalyn uses the written word as a means to heal herself and, hopefully, as a healing support for her readers.
