WriterHouse and C-VILLE Weekly invite you to submit a piece of flash fiction to Charlottesville’s annual writing contest. The final judge will be author Bret Anthony Johnston, author of the best-selling novel Remember Me Like This and winner of the 2017 The Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award.

One first prize winner will be awarded $500 and a one-year WriterHouse membership and one runner-up contestant will be awarded $250 and a one-year WriterHouse membership. The winning pieces will be published in an edition of C-VILLE Weekly. The runner-up will be published online.

Contest guidelines:

Fiction: Flash Fiction stories with a beginning, middle and end.
Entrants must be eighteen years of age or older.
Entrants must be residents in the C-Ville distribution area.
Submissions accepted 07.18.17 – 08.23.17 (must be postmarked on or before 08.23.17).
500 Words maximum
Previously unpublished work only (“published” means print or online, including blogs)
12 point, Times New Roman, double spaced, paginated, title in the header
The author’s name cannot appear anywhere in the document.
1 entry per person total
$10 Entry Fee payable by check, money order, or cash
Electronic and postal submissions accepted
No Erotica

Include a cover letter with your contact information and the name of your story.
